When did your physical beauty, ever matter to me
It was always your self, it was always beauty
Age has put on wrinkles, gray shades and bends
It was always the experience, it was always joy
Teeth may not have sparkle, or lips a rush of pink
It was always the smile, it was always mirth
Your anger still reddens you, with eyes big and round
Look at it through my eyes, you will know why I smile
Your gait still has grace, and your eyes a twinkle
When you walk towards me, I still miss some beats
Your laugh still resembles a tinkle, your voice a flowing river
Hours listening to you, can still never tiring be
Have you lost your empathy, your selfless care for many
Have you lost your humility, your values that now have passed on
Have you lost your incurable, your hopeless love for me
Why then did you ask in time I, have lost my love for you?

Move On
The sun that shines, brown mountains stare
Leaves blowing by, while cold winds wrap
Trees shedding their loads, all eyes moistened
A deep breath, a sigh, my constant longing
Twigs cracking beneath, my sullen walk
Rivers still tied down, stirring for travel
My face silenced, now breaks into a smile
My heart has known you, O waters from far
Man hears from nature, in feelings not sound
A rare stone house, inmates cuddled
Slanted roofs holding on, to other wooden walls
The furnace still smarting, from a night of heat
My hands reaching out, for a caressing touch
Ice creams still sell, iced liquids gulped
Seasons have changed, but life has not
Cocoons will not break, till caterpillars struggle
And life will not budge, till inmates move on
Leaves blowing by, while cold winds wrap
Trees shedding their loads, all eyes moistened
A deep breath, a sigh, my constant longing
Twigs cracking beneath, my sullen walk
Rivers still tied down, stirring for travel
My face silenced, now breaks into a smile
My heart has known you, O waters from far
Man hears from nature, in feelings not sound
A rare stone house, inmates cuddled
Slanted roofs holding on, to other wooden walls
The furnace still smarting, from a night of heat
My hands reaching out, for a caressing touch
Ice creams still sell, iced liquids gulped
Seasons have changed, but life has not
Cocoons will not break, till caterpillars struggle
And life will not budge, till inmates move on
Contemplation
The moon but is, alter ego of one
Reflecting that light, as given by the sun
But in her own, she is graceful as ever
Various shapes and colors, only add to her fervour
Contemplate into her moonbeams, you will even feel heat
Reflect into the darkness, your life will solve itself
Then look around you will witness, the miseries of this world
Reflecting that light, as given by the sun
But in her own, she is graceful as ever
Various shapes and colors, only add to her fervour
Contemplate into her moonbeams, you will even feel heat
Reflect into the darkness, your life will solve itself
Then look around you will witness, the miseries of this world

Mohanlal Movie 'Vaanaprastham': Critique
Kunzhikuttan(Mohanlal) is an individual who's learnt Kathakali against all odds. And he is in absolute love with his art and so completely devoted to it that his name is now taken with respect. His only failing is in the fact that he is an alcoholic. Though one can very clearly see that this is because he is in pain, a deep unsettling pain. Quite a difficult movie to understand. He is shown crying in the presence of his ailing father who it seems had left his mother. He is shown to be in deep pain, asking Narayana to help him handle such a difficult situation his heart is in, in a haunting scene.
The film also potrays the difficulties faced by the Kathakali artists who are not able to sustain their living purely on basis of the devotion to their art. A sad truth faced in the country today in the case of many other such arts too. But in this perspective the movie highlights a positive sign as Kunzhikuttan becomes popular performing abroad, etc.
The main plot of the movie is that Kunzhikuttan, part of an unhappy marriage with a sweet girl as child, falls in love with a woman(Suhasini Hassan) who falls in love with the Arjuna she sees Kunzhikuttan performing. And she has her deepest fantasies coming true when she makes love with this Arjuna. But this truth dawns to Kunzhikuttan when she refuses to meet him as an ordinary person. She also shows him the baby that is born only once, just before he's to play Arjuna, when he's complete in his costume.Never able to come to terms with this loss, he declares that he'll only play ferocious characters from now on. He eventually finds contentment when he goes on a pilgrimage to the holy places in the country after the death of his father.
A man who's not had the love of both his father and son, his pain is well depicted by Mohanlal. Unforgettable are many other scenes like the one when he last goes to meet his dear friend, the man who's sung for him for years as he played complex characters, who's now dying of cancer. Kunzhikuttan, as if to fulfill a purpose, teaches his daughter Kathakali inspite of the fact that his wife(who'd already learnt that he's cheated on her) is unwilling to take it anymore and leaves the house.Kunzhikuttan sends word to the mother of his boy that he'd be playing Arjuna during the "Aarengattum " of his daughter. She comes and sees him for the last time. She's shown erasing her Sindoor the next morning in a state of shock when she's learns through a letter from him stating that he'd be ending his life by immersing himself in the Prayag that night.
A lifetime impression is left in the soul by Mohanlal's performance of such complex character, one who's not materialistic, truly devoted to God, melancholic; someone who's a victim of his circumstances. CLASSIC is one word to describe the performance.

Mohanlal Movie 'Devasuram': Critique
"Ellam Onna Kalanhi Thellinya Irikyunnu..." Who can forget such soul-stirring dialogues delivered by Mallasery Neelakandan(Mohanlal). Behold, for this is one of the most intense and powerhouse performances given by Mohanlal. But giving the most honourable awards for this performance could have meant a tacit pat-on-the-back for the acts of the protagonist. The solution put forth perhaps would have been the seed that gave birth to 'Ravanaprabhu'.
The movie begins with a 'pooram' being disrupted by friends of Mallasery Neelakandan(MN). Watch on right hand, betel leaf in mouth, the character is introduced genuinely enjoying the music doled out by the group that was scheduled to play at the 'pooram'. The basis is a feud between the Mangalacheri and Mundaikal families. Also a sign of the fact that both families are powerful.
MN's father was held by all in high regard. They say that the beautiful voice is all that is alike between MN and his father. Drinking and gambling away the family fortunes is his common pastime. His mother had already left for her brother's place on hearing he was in an illicit relationship. Though he had ended the relation following this incident, his ego did not permit him to go and persuade her to come home.
Though all of his actions prove otherwise, the family accountant, Warrier(Innocent) sticks to him, among other reasons due to the fact that he knows that this is just a golden heart led astray.
Prompted by his friends, MN hires a goon to beat up an elderly member of the other family. It results instead in the old man being killed. His nephew swears revenge on MN.
This was just the beginning of the slide. His friends had been victim to the ire of a village girl(Revathy), a promising dancer in the making. To get even with her, MN dupes her father into believing that her 'aarengatum' would be held at the new temple construction. The farce is revealed only on the night of the event. As her father had already accepted(and spent) the money, the girl is forced to dance in front of the drunken demon. At the end, she pledges in his presence that she'd never wear her 'paadasaram' again. MN later feels deeply regretful.
Meanwhile, the goon demands that a huge sum be paid to his family if he is to keep shut. MN is left with no option but to sell a coveted property at a throwaway price; the salt on the wound being that he's forced to sell it to the same Gulf-returned whose earlier( and better) offer he'd turned down as his father had been like servant to the family.
The girl's family is in the meantime going through hard times and are now without a home. MN's sincere apology is accepted and the family moves to his home. Constantly egged by Warrier, MN shows willingness to turn over to a new leaf; but God leaves the hardest tests to such moments...
As if walking through the ridicule of his uncles to take back his ill mother is not enough, he receives a shock when she informs him that his father is not the one who he is known as...they both are only the benefactors of the generosity of the great man. Somehow graplling with the shock, he comes back again to take his mother home, only to find that she's passed away.
MN is shattered, crushed would perhaps be more apt.He feels cheated, humiliated and hates himself, and more than anything is filled with deep pain. The song 'Sooryakireedam' is apt, but the real beauty is Mohanlal's body language in the song; he conveys the pangs the character is faced more beautifully than the song itself.
The girl is witness to all this. Time passes and the family moves out. The dance master of the girl once comes to make MN realize what a sin he'd committed by leading her to such a grave decision. MN goes with Warrier to apologise and persuade her to change her decision. The fiercely self-respecting girl, in a fit of rage, proclaims that she would resume dancing only after MN's death.
The incident only increases the regard MN has for the girl. As if like a curse put into effect, there is a fatal attack on the two that very night. This event is life-changing. The girl feels remorseful and prays for his life pleading she'd never really meant him harm. MN's life is saved, he is alive...YES. But MN is now like a vegetable. Badly injured with one side of the body crippled, he tells Warrier amidst tears "Haven't I always regarded you as my own father? Will get just one thing for me? A handful of poison?" in a touching scene.
But LIFE is BEAUTIFUL; it mercilessly punishes, but also bountifully loves, all a result of our own Karmas. Warrier is determined to get MN to his feet and puts him under Ayurvedic treatment. The girl, lending a deaf ear to the jeers of all the world(including her father), comes over to take care the convalescing MN. The villain once comes over to laugh at the wounded lion. This only strengthens MN's will and very soon he is able to walk, though unable to freely use one hand. His friends, who initially after the attack had kept away, now rejoin him. But what satisfies MN most is that the girl agrees to resume dancing. And the greatest blessing is that the two begin a love relationship.
The climax is predictable. MN saves the kidnapped girl from the villain. But outrageous is that he cuts off one hand of the villain. A truly reformed MN would have forgiven. And more importantly, the director should have realized that characters like MN, performed so convincingly by a superstar like Mohanlal, can influence entire generations.

Mohanlal: A Biography
Mohanlal was born on May 21, 1960(which incidentally makes him a Taurean, and he seems to fit the bill) in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala State (India) to Sri Viswanathan Nair and Smt. Santhakumari. He also had an elder brother named Pyare Lal. In his mother's own words, 'quite, a very quite child' is how we can characterize young Mohanlal.
He did his schooling from Mudavanmukal School and Model School (Thiruvananthapuram) and completed his BCom from M.G. College (Thiruvananthapuram). Incidentally, he knows famous director and his personal good friend Priyadarsan(with whom he has worked in the maximum no. of films -27) from childhood. Though not the best of friends at the time (Priyan recalls them fighting over the same girls), they had one common passion that brought them together-Cinema. Priyadarsan still fondly remembers the hours they'd spend together in the college canteen discussing cinema.
It is a little known fact that Mohanlal won a Best Actor Award when in the sixth standard in school, an award usually won only by the people from tenth standard. His genuine interest led him and his friends to establish a company named 'Bharath Cine Group'. On September 3, 1978 they began shooting for 'Thiranottam'. The team included Suresh Kumar, Unni, Priyadarsan, S Kumar, Ashok Kumar among others. Mohanlal played the role of a mentally challenged servant in the film. The location for shooting was in and around Mohanlal's house at Mudavanmukal and Suresh's house. Even after tiding over financial problems, the film ran into rough weather with the Censor Board and was never released.
But this setback did little to sway the hold of deep love for acting. Even when in college, he went with friends to Chennai (then Madras)-one of the melting pots for South Indian Film Industry-in search of a job as an actor. They occupied Room No 3 of the famous Swamy's lodge. This is when they came across an ad in the Malayala Manorama daily looking for a youngster for a role in a film. Unhappy with the way he looked in photograph, he declined from applying. But Suresh, aware of his natural talent, secretly sent his photograph anyway. Mohanlal received a telegram the next day and very soon was displaying his skills in front of an interview panel comprising of the likes of Fazil, Sibi Malayil and Jijo. As a result, he received the role of the villain in Fazil's 'Manyil Virinya Pookal'.
This began his fulltime career as an actor in Malayalam films. A workhorse, he would at one time have 35-40 releases in a year. His major break came in 1986 with the all-time hit 'Rajavinde Makan'. This was also the year when he married Suchitra, daughter of a former actor of Tamil films, Balaji.
He won his first State Award for the film T .P. Balagopal M.A (1986). He has won 4 of them to date. He won his first Filmfare Award for the film Sanmasullavarkku Samadhaanam (1986). He has won 5 Filmfare Awards to date. He won his first National Best Actor Award for the film Kireedam released in 1989-albeit the jury award. Later he won Best Actor National Awards for Bharatham (1991) and Vaanaprastham (1999). Apart from this, he has won numerous awards over the years for various films.
The hallmark of Mohanlal's acting is the spontaneity of performance. It is quite a well-known fact that he dosen't seriously rehearse or prepare for his roles. He just becomes the character he is playing for the duration between 'Action' and 'Cut'. So it is not uncommon to hear a reply like 'I don't know' from him when asked about how he carries out something like not blinking when he turns mentally retarded in the film 'Thalavattam', a characteristic even he wasn't aware of at the time; about how he gets the nuances so very right. In his own words " If you study it and then act the role, everything will flounder. Good acting just happens. And personally I don't think one needs to work on the character unless one plays a historical character." For those in front of the screen (the audience), the best thing about Mohanlal is his versatility. It seems he can play absolutely any role under the sun convincingly. And unlike many versatile actors who have traded intensity owing to their versatility, Mohanlal can be most intense if the role demands, the proof being his performances in the numerous action films he's worked in. Priyadarsan calls him the best actor India has ever produced.
Mohanlal established Pranavam Arts to be able to produce the kind of films he had an intense desire to create. And 'Beautiful' is the least we can say to describe some of his creations. His film 'Kaalapani', released in 1995, won 5 National and 7 State Awards. Another splendid creation, 'Vaanaprastham', released in 1999 won the National Award for Best Film.
In recent years, he has concentrated on working on one film at a time to devote more to quality. In his own words, he's more concerned about whether the script is a good one or not rather than whether the movie will be a big hit or not. A gentle human, he'd do films for friends regardless of the kind of project and the monetary returns. His jovial behaviour with cast and crew has endeared him to one and all.
Mohanlal's innate character is guided by the principle of lack of attachment. He was witness to an unfortunate incident wherein an actor with whom he was performing suddenly collapsed to death in front of him. This incident created a deep impact on his attitude to life. It explains his outlook to life and the reason he has now set his priorities the way he has.
Initially averse to working in Tamil films (his reason being 'too much masala' in them), he has now been part of quite a few, including the controversial 'Iruvar' loosely based on the life of Tamil actor and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M.G.R. directed by the very famous director Mani Ratnam. He commented after the making "Hereafter, I will never work with a man of whom I am a fan." The reason being he often forgot to say 'Cut' while shooting!!!
His commitment to his roles is seen in his involvement during the making of the film. It is a well-known fact that he learnt Bharatnatyam for his role in 'Kamaladalam' and learnt 'Kathakali' for his role in 'Vaanaprastham'. Though, typical of this simple and humble human, he often downplays his efforts pointing that it is nothing in comparison to what the masters of the art have put in during years of practice.
Leading a contented life in Chennai (Tamil Nadu) with his wife and two children (Pranavam and Vismaya), he leads a life convinced that there is a force above guiding him through life to whom he gives credits for all his achievements.
We mortals can only wait and pray to continue to be witnesses to the performance of his art while he continues to leave footprints on the sands of time through the medium of cinema.

I thought about you
The day I first saw you, I thought about you
The day I first talked to you, I thought about you
The day we ran together, hoping to catch up with time
As our laughter echoed, we looked into our eyes
My laughter still-stopped, for I thought about you
The day we were sad, you had tears in your eyes
My dear, I could only, think about you
The day we first kissed, embraced in love
How could, I think of, anything but you
The day you left me, bitter and cold
The day I turned, stone-hearted and bold
That day I wished not, but I thought about you
The day this loser, drew first blood
When beauty and lust, slept on his bed
That day I needn't have, but I thought about you
Success and glory, respect and fame,
Money in excess, Vanity insane,
Paid many a visit, they now had a name
All through this and beyond, I know not why
I always I always, thought about you
After every victory had seen, Every failure tested
When I lay on my deathbed, I finally rested
I happened to realize, I never really won
For that day I lost, when I thought about you
The day I first talked to you, I thought about you
The day we ran together, hoping to catch up with time
As our laughter echoed, we looked into our eyes

Reproach
I shall keep this distance, I shall stay away
I shall not get closer, lead my heart astray
If I be cold, well I readily accept
If I be rude, well I care much less
For my cold heart keeps me breathing
And my rude tongue, me aloof
Both had failed to realize
So much you could do
My heart in now in shatters
My mind in blur and daze
Let not my demeanour befool you
My life is not in place
I still do cherish my past
And still do treasure my dreams
But I still do not have you
When today is all that means
I shall not get closer, lead my heart astray
If I be cold, well I readily accept
If I be rude, well I care much less
For my cold heart keeps me breathing
And my rude tongue, me aloof
Both had failed to realize
So much you could do
My heart in now in shatters
My mind in blur and daze
Let not my demeanour befool you
My life is not in place
I still do cherish my past
And still do treasure my dreams
But I still do not have you
When today is all that means
Fursath Ke Din
Beautiful is this place, where I stay
Birds in serene flight, the cows that graze
Mountains, green grass, sky of blue pale
Search a new meaning to life, I walk and stare
But the smell of wet grass, makes me free of care
Perhaps the secret lies, in using this moment to live
For the morrow might be that day, does not this sunshine give
Birds in serene flight, the cows that graze
Mountains, green grass, sky of blue pale
Search a new meaning to life, I walk and stare
But the smell of wet grass, makes me free of care
Perhaps the secret lies, in using this moment to live
For the morrow might be that day, does not this sunshine give

Beautiful Death
Had a tiff with a friend today and I had this energy to channelize..And tht's how this was created (feel at peace now)..
In that bitter dawn of the frozen winter night
Over blistered footsteps and agonies of breath
My heart held light, it still had hope
I could feel the nectar oozing, that on painful pierce of love
And it gave me strength, like never lived before
Remembering the ecstasy, of the days gone by
Sitting next to me, you would hum, sometimes sing
Words that I forget, but the sound
Even now, surfs through my blood
When I would want nothing, but the moment stay still
It gave me warmth, a thousand summers wouldn't
And then a sight, my eyes had yearned for
Was it the first sunray or your luster that broke through
That a well long dry, now overflew
Bruised lips had a smile, even as you blurred out of sight
I earned a death, that washed every birth off my sins
In that bitter dawn of the frozen winter night
Over blistered footsteps and agonies of breath
My heart held light, it still had hope
I could feel the nectar oozing, that on painful pierce of love
And it gave me strength, like never lived before
Remembering the ecstasy, of the days gone by
Sitting next to me, you would hum, sometimes sing
Words that I forget, but the sound
Even now, surfs through my blood

The Law Of Karma - Views and Queries
The Law of Karma gives perfect reasoninng to all that happens in this universe - if that is the word that describes the limitless existence around us. We see the same cycle repeating around us - good intentions somehow evocating a similar response. The same phenomena we are unable to explain - what is the fault of THAT baby who's born with congenital defects. Health-conscious people contracting diseases. A pedestrian losing his life due to rash driving. Or, taking an even more commonplace case one making a mistake he normally wouldn't. When John Nash was asked what led the greatest mathematician of the first half of this century to believe that extraterrestrials were contacting them, he simply replied " I believed them because they came to my mind the same way my mathematical ideas did". Would you then blame him for having believed it?
There is only one law that explains all this, that governs Nature(this term does not stand for only the trees and animals; it encompasses EVERYTHING within and outside). THE LAW OF KARMA. Put in the simplest words in Christianity is as "As you sow, so you reap". But having tremendous depth and impact in it's manifestations.
Every thought of ours also has an effect.
As against the general belief that the law of Karma makes us a creature of our circumstances, the fact is that it brings in the individual the awareness that he, by his present deeds, controls his future. He is very much responsible,in some way, for everything that has, is and will happen concerning him. What we call 'being wronged' is actually a result of our own Karma. For that matter, any result is a function of various Karmas-related or unrelated. This is why the Gita simply asks us to stop predicting or expecting the timing and nature of results.
Are circumstances are not in control at present - though we too, in some way, from some era, are responsible for the way they are today - what is, is our attitude to it, our response to it. When in pain, when hurt, we suffer; a range of emotions rise within us. This very surge has set the chain for the future results. What we need to do rather is to simply take ourselves back to equilibrium first. Meditate till at peace. What we objectively put as "Calm down, keep cool". Realise that NEVER is it the other person's fault, it's our own Karma. He is only the medium. And there is nothing called LUCK. Stay in peace. And now go ahead. No deed by itself is right or wrong. The attitude of the mind, the Karma, leads to the result. The Indian Constitution and judiciary beautifully seems to realise this. A murder in self-defence is not punished. Capital punishment is given with utmost restraint. Any crime is punished by only snatching freedom, the best we can do to do both - keep society free from chaos and give time to the criminal to realise his mistakes. The deed we do now with the attitude we now have, this seed we now sow and the way we do it, will definitely reap the corresponding fruit tomorrow. This is the root of Gandhiji's "The end should not justify the means", Christianity's "Faith can move mountains" or even Stephen Covey's "The best solutions in life are Win-Win".
But then, won't our response, at least to some extent, be a function of our Karmic patterns, our individual set of experiences, which in turn could continue the downward slide while the aim should be to spiral things upwards till we reach the stage where we can(and spontaneously will) break loose. Perhaps this is why the need for a Guru, a person who from his higher can foresee us and set us on the right path. Stress also is laid on surrendering to the guru who WE REALISE must lead us. But then, won't this choice too be a result of our own inherent vasanas. For we discount the plane at which our guide is. Perhaps our choice would be blurred enough to choose someone only high enough for our convenience, not our good.
Maybe this is why gurus at the highest planes like Gautama Buddha and Mahavira Jaina felt the need to lay down a set of principles for right living. But then, was this what was wanted by the guru at the highest plane, Krishna - the one who rendered the Gita. He even goes to specify four paths to moksha thus laying the onus not on the deeds but rather the intention. Or were his teachings being so manipulated that some spoken principles had to come about. We don't know, but from the number of followers Lord Buddha and Lord Mahavira had, it might seem so.
This now leads us to the question "What then is the purpose behind creation? If every action has an effect, what was meant to be the final result of creation?" Swami Vivekananda put it aptly in the World Conference of religions that the Hindu will not hide his ignorance. He will simply say 'I don't know'. Even Lord Krishna never revealed with what motive was creation begun. Why was the cycle begun in the first place. Perhaps we needn't know or aren't supposed. Just the way Einstein and Stephen Hawking felt when researching the orgin the, scope, nature and secrets of the universe. Which even led Einstein to comment "If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him".
But many are the secrets that lie buried, leading a life in such circumstances is like coding without knowing the Functional Specifications. Yes, we have been given(if we look at it so) the Coding Standards though. Life changes so much in a hundred years, how can we comprehend how different it would have been thousands of years ago.
A premium is laid on chastity by the spiritual heads of various religions. So is the result of creation meant to be the end of it? Is that what bought to an end the various yugas...
There is another doubt, who gives all these lessons to a child. If he happens to be in bad circumstances due to his past birth's karmas, then wouldn't he continue to add to them - dependant and easily malleable that he is during his childhood - under such circumstances. Who is to teach him to master self to one day be able to break the bondage. IS this why the gurukul system came into being? Why then has it ended? Is it because it failed to live up to it's purpose? And why so? Is it because Mother Nature wanted her child to live in the circumstances he was responsible for....

Why do creative people need intoxicants?
A thing one should admit and accept, life is not bliss. There can only be moments of bliss. Man's life is not destined for too much of it. Be happy with the ones life gifts you with.
Everything else in life needs to be acted upon. Be it organizing the daily needs, your daily job or even loving. There will always be tons of paperwork, cleaning the house, the groceries, bank, repairs and insurance to do. Drudgery. It is part of life and one must accept it. It will occupy a significant portion of your life whether you like it or not.
You need a steady income. Man is a social being and will have social responsibilities. He is accountable for his family. So he may or may not like his job, but it definitely will take a lot out of him. It will be hard work which will strain and tire him. And he has to put up with it. If he wants to lead a respectable life in society, he dare not run away from it. May make sense for him to consciously begin appreciating it. There are many who lead lives doing tasks more menial than his. And many others ready to do tasks more menial than those to survive, but don't get a chance.
You need to make an effort in even love. Yes, love is a genuine feeling from the heart. A sweet pain without knowing which life is incomplete. And this feeling can at times last long. It may be your parent, kin, friend, child, girl(/boy)friend or spouse. Yet, this is a temporal feeling. The first mistake would be to think that this feeling will last so all your life. That if it is getting deeper or more joyful, it will continue to be so all your life. You wouldn't even be able to handle this feeling for one whole day. While it lasts for those blissful fifteen minutes of the day, enjoy it! Too much of anything is abhored, by anyone.
This is not really to say, you do not love the person. This is only to clear the air, on love the feeling. We do love (more than like) some people in our lives. Love is a committment. It can be very unselfish too; you want to give, not expecting anything from the person concerned.Their happiness makes us happy, their sadness fills us with grief. We are ready to go out of our way (to a limit, if we are sensible) to make them happy. We do think about them and care for them. We even do think and do for them, with the best intentions at heart. Love the feeling has a big role to play in this. For these people mean so much to us, because at some time or the other, they have made you experience love the feeling, in different forms (love the feeling towards your mother is different from love the feeling for your girlfriend). Instinct plays a big part as the root of love the feeling, and thus, acts of love.
As life in itself, everything in life is cyclical. Hence you will have fights and tiffs with your loved ones. (Upto a limit) One must expect it, be ready for it and accept it. Your relationships (not necessarily love the feeling) could grow deeper and richer due to these. It should not lead to a hasty severing of ties. If your mother is sick, no matter how bitter the last fight, you will run to her side to take care of her. And she will not be surprised. Humans are gray, not black or white.
Thus you never really will be in a constant high, be it satisfaction in work, romance or relations. And it is due to lack of this understanding, that 'creative' people need intoxicants. Humans by nature are creative in something or the other. Its only that some people spend most of their time in such tasks, and some, much less. Should say there might be no one who has not done anything creative, even if it be his/her own way of doing something, even walking. You have your inimitable style in doing many things, and that pours out of your natural creativity. Now my focus here is on those people who, usually by the nature of their daily jobs, do more creative activities than others. Every creative act, does give you a high. A simple example to explain what I call a creative act; my writing this is creative, but if I were to be copying this from somewhere else, it is not creative. The creative task is thus one that comes from within us. The creative task in itself might be taxing, but the end will definitely give you a high, the extent of which will be in direct proportion to its significance (to you or to others).
Nectar once tasted, leaves its temptation behind. It thus destroys more than it delivers. Those involved in creative jobs, similarly, get attached to that high. They keep wanting more of it. Work after a limit tires us. But greed does not. And hence these people turn to other sources. They may derive a similar high in liquor, lust and/or drugs. It is possible to see a positive impact initially on their daily job (due to increased state of happiness). But either due to the ease in the deriving the high, or due to its addictive nature and lack of individual will, these people get engulfed more and more by the flame of intoxicants. As time passes, they need to consume more of it to derive the same high. Not long after, the negative impacts are shown on their daily jobs and social life.
The first step as always, is obviously awareness. This is a sensitive topic and society cannot interfere without being charged with invasion of privacy. The individual and those who can appeal to him at the emotional level are the only ones who can help draw the line.
At the workplace, perhaps the nature of the job has become less creative for the individual to have thus begun looking for other avenues for satisfaction. Wherever possible, the corporate can introduce change (ambience, project, team), which might appeal to the individual's creative instincts (at least the adjustment to a new environment always does).
However, the best way to keep away from this whirlpool lies in the individual himself. Most sensible people quench the creativity thirst by involving themselves in hobbies they derive joy out of.
Life is a cycle; you never really can have more than your fair share of personal bliss without paying, possibly a higher (physical, mental, social) price for it!

The Memory of Spring
During long winter nights, I long for spring mornings
In the cold as death, I cherish the warmth of sunshine
Symbolized by the green, it is the giver of new life
When ice breaks into water, purity it shows in true
With love and beauty, radiating around us
There is new hope, in every fresh breath
The flowers at their sight, fill us with joy
And the tune of the birds, bring out an elusive smile
In the cold as death, I cherish the warmth of sunshine
Symbolized by the green, it is the giver of new life
When ice breaks into water, purity it shows in true
With love and beauty, radiating around us
There is new hope, in every fresh breath
The flowers at their sight, fill us with joy
And the tune of the birds, bring out an elusive smile

O Meri Sakhi
O Meri Sakhi, Meri Pyari Sakhi
Teri Zulfon se khelunga main
O Meri Sakhi, Meri Pyari Sakhi
Tujhko Baahon mein leloonga main
Teri Dil Mein Samaake, phir usko churaake
Teri Neendon mein jaagunga main
Teri Zulfon se khelunga main
O Meri Sakhi, Meri Pyari Sakhi
Tujhko Baahon mein leloonga main
Teri Dil Mein Samaake, phir usko churaake
Teri Neendon mein jaagunga main
Verses for the day - Dec 21
In my luck, I have faith no more
If victory does come, it would not, lucky be
I am not interested, in making friends with you
For I have loved her, and so have you
Who am I, to write you a poem
Who are you, that anyone write you a poem
A princess should not, an ordinary man love
Beggars see stars, they have no ceilings to watch
Another me, not one in haste
Of intense feelings, and liesurely days
Have written these poems, words from my heart
In rhythm unknown, to a calculated mind
Slowly but surely, in mud will i crumble
Slowly immersing, in deep waters will i dissolve
Slowly with intensity, will i rise among the flames
A Life Wasted
Mean and cold
As the stone in winter
Rusted and old
As iron not long been lustred
Serving couplets and playing dice
This life was one, spent in vice
Seething tempers and marital discords
All happened, of my own accord
Yet I lie on the diwan, awaiting my Lord
To still be merciful, take me to his abode
As the stone in winter
Rusted and old
As iron not long been lustred
Serving couplets and playing dice
This life was one, spent in vice
Seething tempers and marital discords
All happened, of my own accord
Yet I lie on the diwan, awaiting my Lord
To still be merciful, take me to his abode

Control
Creativity reads, the mood of the mind
As the breeze knows, each bit of the world
Whether tragedies strike, or souls realize
The wind blows, carrying stories untold
Who are we, but creatures of time
Seeing each other, by warp of this mind
My heart cries, must the eyes have tears
Even the fingers type, and the body still holds
As the breeze knows, each bit of the world
Whether tragedies strike, or souls realize
The wind blows, carrying stories untold
Who are we, but creatures of time
Seeing each other, by warp of this mind
My heart cries, must the eyes have tears
Even the fingers type, and the body still holds
Hope
In pain my heart, cleanses my soul
In dirt, my body, earned lustre unknown
To give is to get, to keep is death
Let go every bond, find peace in your own
No battles are lost, when none were fought
But in deep recesses of mind, will always be hope
Someday, sometime, perhaps in a different world
We will meet, for, your love I have known
In dirt, my body, earned lustre unknown
To give is to get, to keep is death
Let go every bond, find peace in your own
No battles are lost, when none were fought
But in deep recesses of mind, will always be hope
Someday, sometime, perhaps in a different world
We will meet, for, your love I have known

Poetry
How would you discern, that I am a poet
How do I know, that I am one
I call myself one, but are you not
I call myself none, but are you not
Whom could you not, call a poet
And whom would you be, able to call a poet
For poetry is rhythm, it is in all of us
And poet is the one, with rhythm in his work
So not just in words, can poetry be written
It can be expressed, in every form and pattern
And just as our breath, like a swing comes and goes
So would our poetry, be it in word, or in deed
Hold not, to what you have
Attach not, to what you got
Let time choose, on what can now
Bend the string, in harmony true
How do I know, that I am one
I call myself one, but are you not
I call myself none, but are you not
Whom could you not, call a poet
And whom would you be, able to call a poet
For poetry is rhythm, it is in all of us
And poet is the one, with rhythm in his work
So not just in words, can poetry be written
It can be expressed, in every form and pattern
And just as our breath, like a swing comes and goes
So would our poetry, be it in word, or in deed
Hold not, to what you have
Attach not, to what you got
Let time choose, on what can now
Bend the string, in harmony true
Why then, would I wake
On lovely fresh mornings, with soothing breezes
Your hair soft, silky, while caressing my face
Kept away the first sun, so that I may sleep
Even if close eyed, this my love, you took care
Blithe after a bath, dripping wet hair on my face
You would hurriedly slip away, knowing I would chase
As pretentious your pace, my sleepy legs could gain
That prententious my laze, in wait of your mane
You wanted to be held, tight secure by my arms
After vulnerability one feels, right after a bath
You needed my touch, even before that, of the Gods
Weren't we for each other, reflection, of the Lord
No more a beautiful sparsh, than, your wet skin
No more a beautiful sight, than, your lit up face
No more a beautiful sound, than, your giggle, near my chest
No more a beautiful taste, than, my kiss, on your brow
Had this life known, why then, would I wake
