A sudden rain

To the drums of thunder, were rain-arrows shot
The shiver of lightning, gusty winds raced from

Umbrellas upturned, still people in mirth
Intoxicating feeling, the water and smell of dirt

The Vedas being chanted, the Homas now fulfilled
Devas Indra and Varuna, these showers having blessed

Let there be Rain

Let there be rain, the one that blooms
Countless trees, and flowers within

Let there be thunder, not the one that scares
But the one that beats the drums of joy

Let there be lightning, like a countless moons
And the mirth of beholding someone greater that self

I look forward to rains, the green and wet earth
To bask in the dry sun, beneath flowing clouds

Nature is Blessed, Bathed in Rain

Parched in thirst, a year long wait
Mud and grime, and bird nest waste
Trees long most, for that first rain
Which washes and brightens, both leaf and trunk
Which cares for and nourishes, the deepest roots

Water from the Gods, that sip of nectar
Generously dispersed, seated on clouds
We thank your gifts, masters in the skies
New life is born, by sipping this nectar

I stay hands folded, beholding this beauty
The leaves I have seen, were never this green
As a beautiful woman, who steps out of water
As a dazzling butterfly, who rests on a flower

Why the delay, O dear Rain

Why O dear Rain, are you so late
You seem to have forgotten, you were to be here
We are waiting parched, the fields and the flowers
As animals and birds, we all look upwards

Why O pure water, do you keep us parched
Your mighty showers, we look forward to bath
The clouds still spread thin, silver as old man's hair
We look for the young, lush black heavy clouds

The sun still scorns, an extended summer's dry
O mighty rains come down, do humble his pride
The children will dance, as will peacocks for you
The farmer will shower blessings, just shower water will you!

The Rain is Here

The coming of rains, has shaken
Birds and beasts , from slumber
The earth is refreshed, the grass drenched
And so are insects, now easy prey

My child is watching, with eyes awonder
At the fury of rain-spears on Earth
In innocence, he realizes not
This is the Sky, making love to her

And in this mirth, will be born new life
As nature, nourished by sunlight
As life stands still, in cozy abodes
The dance of creation, is ever-abound

Rain and Mountain

One quenches the skin, the other enters the blood
Both are manifest, by events magical
Not understood, not predicted, but yet related

Both represent nature, in its enormity
They sustain life, yet test your will

You try to force it, will do no good
But look up to it, show humility due
And you realize it is, but part of you
Just as Earth and Water, are we made of

Rain and Mountain, just breathe them once
You will fall in love, with a memory etched
