Service industry will ride the AI wave with their focus on ROI

A lot of AI's success will hinge on ROI. That it's very costly is not debated and also explains why it's taken a long time to come along. An of course, also because it's still in the learning curve.
The venture capitalists and Angel investors will still keep looking for a lot of data and evidence before they would want to put their money. And that POC is too early to even exist.

So choosing the right use cases in terms of cost and feasibility will be critical. This is where I think companies with experience in doing due diligence before investing money will success i.e. IT service companies.
These companies are closest to the clients and know what will bring the biggest bang for the buck. The startups of the world will be either niche / narrow-focused which could lead to limited success.  Or disconnected to what are the biggest pain points companies will be willing to invest on AI to address.

The focus of the Service industry today should be to dig into their body of experience and rank use case candidates for AI implementation using a combination of Cost, Feasibility and Customer pain point as parameters.
They should validate this list with the relevant clients across domains.
This body of knowledge will be a gold mine using which the foundation of "Pragmatic AI" can be established.
